Seiko brochure from Summer 1964

One of the key aims of this site is to be a source of information for those who collect vintage Grand Seiko. We don’t just list the watches that we have for sale in the anticipation that customers will add them to their collections – we also list watches that we have never had in stock, along with as much data about those watches as we can glean. The intent is to be a reliable source of information about exactly which references were created by Grand Seiko, and to provide data on those references.

We are confident that currently this site contains the most complete, accurate and detailed information on the historical Grand Seiko references that you will find anywhere.

We have managed to acquire and scan another example of an early 1960’s Seiko brochure that would have been distributed to retailers to hand out to members of the public.

Previously we have published a brochure from Christmas 1963, and another from earlier in that year, both of which featured the Grand Seiko First.

This catalogue, which from the code at the bottom right of the back page dates from May 1964, was used for a summer promotion.

Page 2 of the catalogue features the Grand Seiko 43999 with SD dial – we can tell it is the SD dial based on the pattern of text around the 6 o’clock marker. The watch is listed for sale at 27,000 Yen, confirming the price it is listed at when featured in the February, May, and June issues of Seiko news of the same year.

This is the earliest example of a brochure intended for the public that we have come across that features a 57GS reference.

Clearly from the background graphic and accompanying text, this brochure was intended to promote waterproof watches in the range, and the 43999 is detailed as being waterproof to 50 meters.

Below we present a gallery of scans of all pages from the brochure.
